Our Process
We are invested in your success as a shepherd. Every purchase from us is backed up by the Yellowbird Promise - our dedication to you and your flock. We also don't just sell you "whatever" sheep we have. We take the time to discuss your individual goals. Afterwards, we will select a larger group of ewes that meet your needs and bring them up to the barn for you sort through. We recommend laying hands on them, running them through the alley, and closely examining them before making your decision. We are not satisfied unless you are proud to turn these girls out in your pastures!
"I cannot express in words how amazing my experience was at Yellowbird Farms. I highly recommend anyone who currently has a flock of sheep as well as those who are new to sheep, schedule a visit and see for yourself. I have every intention to go back and visit again soon to learn more and share my experiences with them. Most importantly I hope I can be as helpful to someone else as they begin a flock as Jim has been to me."

KATAHDIN EWES
Each year, we offer ewe lambs, yearlings and mature ewes in the spring and fall. Unfortunately, most of our females are already destined for new pastures prior to making it onto this page. If you are interested in adding our sheep to your flock in the future, please reach out to us directly. Our 2020 stock is currently already spoken for, but keep a lookout for our 2021 offerings! |
TEXEL/KATAHDIN CROSS EWES
We also offer Texel-influenced females (25% or 50% Texel). Due to most producers in our area preferring hair sheep, most of our Texel-sired lambs are reserved for our wholesale meat customers. Once a lamb has been guaranteed to them, she cannot be redirected into your flock. The best time to discuss adding Texel-sired ewes to your flock is prior to the start of lambing seasons in October and March.
Please note that these ewes will need to be sheared at least once a year, in the spring. |
Texel/katahdin cross rams
We offer a selection of Texel-influenced rams each summer. These 50/50 crosses are exceptional additions to any meat-lamb breeding program! The highest individual weaning weight and highest average weaning weight across a breeding group we have ever recorded came from a 50/50 Texel/Katahdin cross sire. Both Texel & Texel-influenced rams routinely tip the scales at 250 pounds. These F1 rams offer the benefits of better muscling and carcass traits while retaining the durability of their Katahdin dams.
Please note that these rams must be sheared at least once a year in April. In the deep south it is recommended to shear again in July if the wool has grown back substantially. |
